On Saturday VIP leaders took to the streets in the Maryvale zip code 85031, the poorest zip code in Maricopa county. At 25% vaccinated, 85031 has the 3rd lowest vaccination rate in Maricopa County (compare that to the Carefree/Scottsdale zip code that has a vaccination rate of over 75%).
To help close the vaccination and public health gap in this area, VIP is partnering with St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Daughters of Charity and the Maricopa County Public Health Department to bring over 1,600 new vaccines into the community.

VIP organized the community walk on Saturday, April 24th. Leaders visited 402 homes, leaving flyers at all, and had conversations with residents at 326 of those homes. Those conversations resulted in 131 NEW people saying they would sign up for the vaccine (about 40% of the people we talked to). Additionally, VIP and the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish have distributed over 1000 flyers to families in the area. |

We are learning the quality public health requires quality community organizing. To that end, VIP is organizing a subsequent walk on May 1st in more 85031 neighborhoods.
